5.26.10 Banff & Jasper Nat'l Parks
Well, we are finally driving through Canada. What a beautiful country! It looks a lot like Montana with all the majestic pine trees, and, everything is so manicured and orderly. we camped at two campgrounds, Banff and Whistler. Most of the days have included rain or snow, or both. Jack said "We could be barefoot in our New Mexico, and here we are wearing winter coats, walking the dogs in the snow. What's up with that?"
We visited Lake Louise in Banff... It was breathtaking! And....frozen over.. This is a huge glacier, and the water looks all milky blue. We discovered that the color is created by the glacier pulverizing rocks into powder, called rock flour. the lake was completely frozen over except around the edges. We decided to make the best of it anyway. Soooo, while Jack played ice hockey, I went ice skating. (not)
This is what the chateau at the lake looks like today. The first one, was a log cabin, built to entice tourists to the area.
My handsome honey. Don't fall in!!!!!
